Me

My name’s Waqas Hussain.  I was born in Pakistan, and grew-up in Dubai in the 70s and 80s. I have lived in Italy, Singapore, Dubai, Belgium, Switzerland, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia; and am presently based (again) in Dubai. I have dual Pakistani & Belgian citizenship, but generally call any place I am living in as my permanent home, until things change.

Professionally, my background is mainly in HR, Organizational Development & Transformation, with multiple detours to other areas, including Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, IT, Digital, PMO, and Strategy. I have led HR functions and Centers of Expertise at European and Global levels. I currently work in HR in the Auto industry in the Gulf.

My interests are eclectic and wide-ranging. I enjoy poetry, birds, gardening, history, linguistics.  I am fascinated with elusive connections between the seemingly disparate. I have a passion for originality in ideas and expression, and a deep interest in people. To quote Lord Peter Wimsey, when it comes to people’s stories “detail delights me, ramifications enchant me; distance no object, no reasonable offer refused”.

PS: The title of the Blog is not a disingenuous solipsism (i.e. screening a broadcast tactic behind pretended modesty). Here’s the background: being plagued with a bad memory, I have been a compulsive note-taker most of my life. In the midst of faithful stenography, many internal observations get triggered (à la.. “Wow”, “Aha”, and “Hang on, isn’t that connected with…” etc.) Before they skitter away in the flow of the meeting, I make a quick notation of “NTS” in the margin (Note to Self) along with the particular useful insight that piqued me in some way. These entries are frequently drawn from such NTS marginalia.
